Centre X My New .22lr Ammo

Centre X Out To Impress

Earlier this year I had my .22lr Anschütz 1710 batch tested for Lapua’s Centre X as an alternative to shooting with Eley Match & Tenex due to costs and availability.

Today was my first chance to shoot out to 100 yards from a bench rest and after a few sighter shots and adjustments to windage and elevation I began to drop in a few tidy cloverleaf 3 & 5 shot groups. Although not all groups were tight masterpieces, this is something I will mark down as my lack of experience in the discipline of rimfire benchrest skills. I know my little ‘Annie’ is much more accurate than I am.

Now that I have witnessed how the new Centre X performs on paper at 100 yards I will be excited to get back to knocking down a few Rams once our range is fully functional ‘but that may not be for a few months yet’.

Dry Firing – Something We Should Do More Often

Dry Firing Is Just As Important As Live Firing For Improvement

Recently I was reading an online article in Rifle Shooter Magazine that “David Tubb a High Power Rifle Champion in the USA” had contributed towards, where he talks about Dry Firing and how important it is as part of any training or changes you make in your shooting.

I know many of us do Dry Fire at home or at the range but I thought that I would post this article for the readership that may not be aware of the benefits of Dry Firing.

Barrel Maintenance – Bore Cleaning

Cleaning Is Not Always A Bore

I have watched and read many Barrel Cleaning Regime’s that are offered up online and on the printed page.  Some I have been happy with and others I was not so impressed with due to the lack of care with the Firearm.  Some cleaning methods were even said to take up to and beyond 24 hrs to clean a barrel, with a first clean at the range and for the second or third cleaning solvents were left to soak in the barrel overnight and brushed and patched out the next day.  ‘When would you find the time to shoot if you were using these exhaustive cleaning programs!!!’ I wanted a complete refined cleaning regime that allowed me to clean my rifle both inside and out with minimal interuption to my range visit and shooting time.

Chickens Takin’ A Lickin’

I grabbed some range time last weekend before our upcoming National Championships and decided to create a short video of myself shooting a bank of 5 chickens before I got into a more detailed and focused shooting session.  Apologies in advance for the lighting conditions.

Shot Placement On Rams

Short Practise Sessions Are Well Worth The Effort

I had a couple of hours to myself on Saturdsay morning, so I got myself of to the range for a practise session.

After a few warm up, bedding in shots I began to tumble the sils from their feet.  Once I had gained confidence in my shot placement I took a well deserved and gratifying tea break.

Finishing of the mornings practise session I had 5 remaining shots for Rams and I knocked 4 from 5, unfortunately running high on the first one but the four remaining shots where right on the money with inch perfect body shots.
