Foreign Lands A Traveling
On February 9th & 10th I attended the British Shooting Show. I had never been to a large scale shooting show before so I was really looking forward to seeing all that was on offer, plus I had a small shopping list that I wanted to fulfill.
A group of 30 members from my Shooting Club headed of by Mini Bus to Belfast and crossed the Irish sea by Ferry to Liverpool. We then drove down to the outer limits of Coventry where we stayed in a very nice little Tudor / Edwardian Style hotel. After a few beers in the town on the Friday we were all set on Saturday morning raring to go.
Traffic As Far As The Eye Can See
There you have it. It’s all in the title, we were not the only early starters that morning we had to join hundreds more on the motorway exit as we snaked at a very slow pace to the venue, two hours in traffic and half the day gone. Not the morning we all had planned and talked about.
Guns Galore Plus More & More…
In the venue of 4 Large Halls including Gunmakers Row and the like I got to see everything from the high end Holland & Holland shotgun pairs to the 2nd hand vintage air rifle. It was fantastic. The halls were packed with people all looking and buying something. We had to queue just to get someone’s attention to ask about a price or if they had Lapua 139g Scenar in stock. One member of the club was interested in the Karl Gustave 6.5×55 rifle so we went on a mission to locate one. In the end we found about 6 on different stands and he finally settled on making a purchase. It was definitely enjoyable getting to talk with fellow shooters and handle and admire the many variations of firearms and shooting accessories.
Sunday Not A Day Of Rest For The Shooter
Sunday was more enjoyable as we got up that little earlier and drove straight to the Venue in 30 minutes. We had the place to ourselves for the first hour. We got to speak with more and more stall holders and made a few additional purchases. I got myself the Hornady Ultrasonic cleaner liquid, my Lapua 139g Scenar bullets a Deer Hunter lined jacket and a bargain Rifle slip. Nice little shopping trip indeed.
All in all it was a nice little extended weekend away a ‘Busmans Holiday’ and I look forward to doing it all again next year.
